On this day (May 4th), in 1993 ....
- a gallon of gas cost $1.16
- a loaf of bread was $1.57
- and Dale Hunter of the Washington Capitals received a then-record 21-game suspension from shiny new NHL Commissioner, Gary Bettman, for his blatantly late blindside check on the New York Islanders' Pierre Turgeon, in a Round 1 playoff game a week earlier.
I never heard a whistle and thought he still had the puck!
ReplyDeleteAwesome video to watch again - thanks for bringing it up. You can almost feel the frustration Dale Hunter had as he gave the puck away and watched Turgeon bury the goal.

One of the finest moments of sportsmanship ever!
If Turgeon had been sharp, maybe that woulda been the year that the Islanders finally reclaimed their place as Cup champions.
